ABOUT

The village Sund is the ancient center of the district of Ydre, known for its beautiful nature with vast forests, high hills and solemn lakes. The village is classified as a national cultural heritage of Sweden, as the village preserves the ancient administrative structure with a church, vicarage, school and courthouse.  The location at the sound between 2 lakes gives ample opportunity for swimming and fishing. Forest walks, bicycling and jogging are favorite pastimes.

Sunds NorrgÃ¥rd was formed in 1809 when the Sund estate was split in 2 parts. The manor is from 1892 and has served as country seat for the nobility families Du Rietz and Stiernspetz. The guest house, located 100 meters to the north of the manor, was originally intended as a museum for local history and is now a picturesque cottage featuring glimpses of the lake, a cozy tiled stove fireplace, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, dining room, fully equipped kitchen, balcony and a large garden.

Surrounding the village is the large Sund Natural Reserve with magnificent several hundred year old oak trees and Viking burial mounds. The bird life includes cranes, osprey, whoopee, diver, capercaille and many species of woodpeckers. Welcome to Sund for a memorable experience of the culture and nature of the Swedish countryside.
